Coaches CornerAfter a disappointing start to the season where Eastwood out played us in 1st grade in round 1 with some poor defence out wide and set piece not at the standard we expect, the boys have been much improved after being able to spend a couple more training sessions together and getting to know each other after a rep season that saw up to 12 players playing in academies and not being available for club footy until week one.
The last two weeks have seen the team playing much more as a group and playing the out 80 mins in both games. There were some very trying conditions last week against West Harbour and they were unable to score a try with very strong breeze with them in the second half . There were some impressive individual efforts from players such as new recruit Hoani Matenga in the second row, Sam Latinpulu playing in the back row and Ryan Shortland after a shaky start in rd 1, performing well on the wing.
Four of the 1st grade backline, Ben Volavola, Apo Latinpulu, Nicky Price and Rohan Saifolio are all 19 years old and all are chance of making the Australian u/20s in June. This provides the club with a with some great young talent and a great future for the club.
The lower grades have not started as well as they would have liked due to the number of players still playing Super 15 Rugby and a heavy injury toll for the start of the season. With some returning from injury this week, we should see a good day this Saturday and hope to see everybody down at Forshaw.
