Colts Update - Penrith at Home
This weekend Southern Districts Colts host Penrith Rugby Club Colts at Fort Forshaw.
After a tough run of games against four of the top performing clubs, we take on Penrith who, while being at the bottom end of the competition, bring a unique style that incorporates tough defence and razzle dazzle rugby. If the passes stick anything can happen, as we found out late last season, so there can’t be any feeling of complacency among the teams this week. While the Penrith players might miss a few tackles, the ones they make can bring a world of pain, so we need to be exact in our running angles with plenty of support play.
3rd Grade and 2nd Grade are coming off a couple of losses, and 2nd Grade particularly weren’t happy as a playing and coaching group with the way they performed last week against Gordon. I’m thinking this could be the game of the day with 2nd Grade looking to make amends after last week with a much more polished game against Penrith.
3rd Grade is a young group, who are learning how to put together a 60-minute performance, and the education continues tomorrow. Penrith also have a young 3rd Grade Colts side who have come through the juniors as a group and have put together some good scores, so it will be a battle of similar teams. We’re all looking at 3rd Grade to kick the day off with a good and determined win.
I’ve been away for four weeks and I’m looking forward to watching a really good day’s rugby tomorrow. 1st Grade have posted two very impressive wins in the last two weeks, and the 40-0 thumping last week of title contenders Gordon is one to be very proud of. It came off the back of some really solid, committed defence, and to me it looked like everyone had made their bed that week. We need more of the same tomorrow.
