Such an epic beginning to 2020 for our Colts program.

YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS THE COLTS INFO DAY!

As a club, we have acknowledged that the Colts 2019 season was not the success we hoped for. As a result, we have already spent 3 months planning for 2020. It has been a whirlwind of meetings, emails, phone calls and documenting our fresh plans. We then see the great appointment of Head Coach Todd Louden who, in my first meeting with him, acknowledged the critical importance of Colts and our Junior Clubs in relation to the ongoing success of the Rebels.

Of course are all critical links in the rugby chain. From under 6s through to the Wallabies, it is all connected to the success and viability of our great game. Colts rugby is such a cyclical monster where you can play the Grand Final one year and not make finals the next or 2 or 3 years. In 2018 Sydney University were one win away from not making the top 6 in 1st colts which highlights how tough some seasons can be.

I am excited to be back with Colts after a season off which will be my 24th season with Colts rugby and I can honestly say 2020 is the best planned season i have ever been involved with. We have locked in most coaches and managers and support staff with only a few spots to fill. Never have we had such a group of people helping with off field improvements relating to education, training facilities, Scholarships and the Colts Foundation.

The benefits to the colts group and club is monumental and the dedication by this group is inspirational.

We have an excellent group of coaches who will be constantly working with Todd and the grade coaches and striving to become better coaches. We forget that Coaches also need opportunities and mentoring to become better coaches and this is one of Todds priorities for 2020 through coaching workshops and coaches meetings planned pre season and in season.

Grade and Colts will be training as a club between half a session and a full session per week which is a great initiative and will be part of the one club working hard for success in 2020 and beyond. The old saying, the harder you work the luckier you get and as a club, Southern Districts will be working very hard.

Todd Louden has brought a professional pre season and in season program to the club and I have had the pleasure to work with Todd when we were both at Randwick and i know what will take place.

The 2019 Colts season has been discussed, reviewed, and lessons learned.

We look forward not backwards, we have had some great seasons the past 6 years and I have put together a list of players who have been part of Southern Districts Colts the past 5 to 6 years and have since, been involved in the next level of Rugby.

We need to remember when our program is strong achievements are possible.

  • Brandon Paenga-Amosa – Queensland REDS, Qantas Wallabies
  • Lukhan Salakaia-Loto – Queensland REDS, Qantas Wallabies

In 2019 when you look at the 4 SDRC grade sides, more than 50% of the players came through the SDRC Colts system. This is a great club achievement and only a a few clubs can say this.

YOU CANNOT AFFORD TO MISS OUR COLTS INFO DAY

The season officially kicks off with the Colts Information Day on Sunday 29th September at 8:30am. This is going to be an amazing day for the club. Todd Louden will talk about the Colts rugby program and its connection with the grade program. He will also introduce the coaches and outline the "whole of club" program which is designed to set the foundation for the next few years.

It's imperative that players make the time to come along to the Information Day, hear about the plans, support the club and the people who are working hard for YOUR rugby season and hear about the REDS program, the pre season program, the in season program and the off field expectations. (Possibly an end of season development Tour.... Bula!)

We collectively need to buy in and reset the compass for 2020 and beyond.

Bring on 2020, we will be ready!
