Round 4 WrapRound 4 Southern Districts Rugby Club vs. Randwick
The colts hosted the Wicks while the grade spent the day by the seaside at Coogee.
Scores at grade were mixed while it was one way traffic for the best part at Forshaw.
4th grade- Won 32- 26- with a bonus point
3rd grade – Lost 15-7
2nds –Lost 25-20- Bonus point
1sts – WON 40-24- Bonus Point. Was great to hear the song bellowing from the Coogee changrooms
A great start to the day by the fighting 4ths with a welcome return to Chris Kerr a highlight of the match. 3rds fought well and left their run a little late while 2nds gave away too much start to Randwick but battled hard to the death.
1st grade got off to a stellar start getting out to 13-0 after as many minutes and led 19-7 at the break. With the wind behind them the result was in the bag and a bonus point has the 1sts running 2nd on the competition.
At Forshaw we were pleased to host a rare 4th grade colts match with the Rebels winning 55-0 – yes that’s right 55-0. Well done to the boys for some of them playing for the first time in a Rebels jersey- what is more important that there is some depth in numbers to keep the cupboard stocked. The other scores were
3rd colts- lost 29-13 after being down 12-6 at half time
2nd colts – lost 33-7 after trailing 19-7 at halftime
1st colts- lost 31-18 after trailing 13-5 at halftime.
To be honest the scores were no indication of the games – all sides committed really well and the 1sts gave a great account of themselves against a Randwick side that is ranked as one of the favorites to win the 1st colts. The average age of our 1st colts side would just tip the tape at 18 – with no less than 3 school boys in the side. Stick with it boys , the future looks really bright. Special mention of Albert Hemopo- one of the school boys and one to watch that’s for sure.
Each week we are recognizing our wonderful band of volunteers and this week I would make mention of the men( and one lady) that look after the grade teams while they are on the field. Ken McKay( 1st grade) Sean Murphy and Graeme Dunne( 2nds) Billy McKay- one of our newest Life Members- 3rd grade) Allysa Burke( 4th grade) This great group have many duties to perform each week and they all make it look very easy( trust me it’s not!!!) We are very fortunate to have them in our group so next time you are at the game- give em a well earned pat on the back.
NEXT WEEK WE ARE ON TV – AGAIN against Sydney University. It is also family fun day with particular attention given to our Junior Rep sides. There will be 5 games with 5th grade starting at 9.50am and the main game kicking off at 3.10pm. The atmosphere at Forshaw on game day is electric and should not be missed.
