Round 6 Colts Vs Eastwood Roundup
The weekend's games against Eastwood were like a grand final for all 3 teams and training during the week had that intensity and this challenge was driven by the coaches and accepted by the players who trained very strongly by the entire playing group. The players attitude has been very good and the results on Saturday were a reflection of there effort.
Eastwood are a very strong club with some excellent results this season so to get 2 good wins in 3rds and 1sts and a close loss in 2nds indicates we are moving forward as a group. My aim for a season is to win the club championship and if you do this the competition wins look after themselves and if you focus on the club championship then every grade is important and all play there part. I work on 3rds setting the bar, 2nds maintaining the rage and 1sts bring the day home so everyone has a responsibility to each other and the club to contribute strongly to the days effort and this is what happened on the weekend. I thought the reserves for 3rds did a great job when they came on and defended brilliantly to keep Eastwood scoreless who threw everything at us. Great effort, great attitude.
2nds will reflect on this game and will be the one that got away and just didn't play the 2nd half smart. Good effort and a tough game and played in probably the toughest conditions of the day. Both teams' defences were strong with each team scoring 1 try a piece but our discipline at the breakdown when under pressure gifted Eastwood 2 penalties and with tries hard to get Penalties goals were like gold. We need to back our defense and not give away penalties.
1sts needed a win to get there season back on track and the guys started well and a good forwards try to Sama Mololo gave us the start we needed. From then on it became an arm wrestle with Eastwood hitting the front 21 to 20 with 10 minutes to go but a nice pick and drive try to Pat Kuenzle of a Harry Klemmer McLennan run put us in front 25 to 21 and the last 7 or 8 minutes were nail biting times but the guys played some smart shut the game down rugby and did the little things right and finished the game very strongly and certainly had enough energy to sing out the club song in a packed dressing room.
Now they get the opportunity to do it all again next week.
A big thanks to the club for letting all teams play on the main field. It means a lot to the players and everytime they cannot play on the main field in front of everyone is an opportunity they will never get back.
Parramatta this week is another big game for all sides and we need to train like we did last week and get to to juniors gym on Wednesday to do the extras. The result for 1sts colts could have been different on Saturday if we were not fit enough those last 10 minutes.
